3M™ 8902 Polyester Tape demonstrates superior performance in high-temperature masking operations such as powder coating and painting.
Coated with a silicone adhesive, this tape adheres to a variety of difficult-to-bond surfaces. Its chemical resistance remains excellent across a
wide temperature range and in various environments. It is a thicker version of 3M 8901 Polyester Tape.
Performance Under Demanding Conditions
3M™ 8902 Polyester Tape is a thicker, more durable polyester tape that provides ideal masking in high-temperature applications and adheres well
to silicone-coated surfaces. The translucent blue backing resists tearing. Coated with a silicone adhesive, this tape performs well in masking for
powder coating to create sharp paint lines. It removes cleanly and in one piece from most surfaces, avoiding fragmentation or breakage.
The tape also excels in permanent splicing operations of silicone release liners, papers, and films subjected to high temperatures.
This tape offers good chemical resistance, making it effective in chemical processes and demanding applications such as anodizing.
The pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive performs well in temperatures ranging from -60°F (-50°C) to 400°F (204°C).
Recommended Applications
Masking parts for high-temperature powder coating
Splicing of silicone release liners, films, and papers
Holding parts or vacuum bags in composite bonding operations
Flash breaker in metal bonding processes where excess epoxy resin (flash) flows onto the tape
Masking metal surfaces in acidic or corrosive chemical milling baths
Protective tape to reduce scratches during handling and transportation
Provides a good barrier for isolating dissimilar metals
